Fireworks during the Fourth of July are as American as apple-pie, but did you know that more fires are reported during that day than any other day of the year on the Navajo Nation? More than half of these fires are caused by fireworks.

For many years the Navajo Nation made announcements that the use and possession of fireworks is prohibited on the Navajo Nation, but we continue to see the use of fireworks on our lands.

It is important that you support your local fire departments to report any illegal use of fireworks in your housing areas or community.

Conditions for fuel and weather are favorable for a fire and people need to be aware. The Navajo Forestry Department reminds you that fireworks are illegal on the Navajo Nation and reminds you to be careful with your use of fire.
